The state of Nuevo Leon, leader in transformation responding to the challenges of social, cultural and economic development of the country, responds swiftly to the challenges of higher education and technological competitiveness by creating government supported project “Monterrey International City of Knowledge”, which integrates the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León with input from academic and research infrastructure a priority area of development in health and biomedicine.
The Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León, a leading public university in the country, has included in its Institutional Development Plan, policies and strategies aimed at strengthening academic capacity and competitiveness, in order to respond to future and current challenges of higher education. It also states, as one of its strategic objectives, consolidate into a center of scientific, technological and humanistic knowledge, with high social impact, and to contribute to the generation and innovative application of knowledge, to address issues of significant social and economic development in the state and the country.
To meet this challenge, and based on successful models and best practice experiences of world-class research centers, the UANL put forward the creation of the Center of Research and Development of Health Sciences (CIDICS) within the framework of the project “Monterrey International City of Knowledge”
With the enthusiastic participation of leading scientists and international consultants, with input from state and federal resources, began in 2006 on the health science campus of UANL. The construction of the building of CIDICS, it has an innovative design, modern and functional facilities ready for generation and immediate application of knowledge, and the development of products, models and services in the field of biotechnology in health.
With the establishment and beginning of operations of the Center of Research and Development of Health Sciences (CIDICS), the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo Leon achieve one of its most ambitious goals in terms of scientific and technological development, thus, it establishes itself as a scientific pillar for the State of Nuevo Leon, strengthening the health sciences, and thereby contributing to improve health and welfare of people through innovation, research and development state, regional and national levels.
Build scientific and technological knowledge, applied to solve local, national and international health issues, contributing to the training of innovative and competitive qualified scientists, to enhance the scientific and technological contribution of the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo Leon, to the state and country progress within the international context.
To be a research center of excellence, reaching to the highest standards of national and international quality, for the training of scientists and researchers, committed to the generation and spread of knowledge through the development and technological innovation. Accordingly with the needs of globalization and within an international collaborative framework, it will reaffirm the scientific and technological quality of the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo Leon, and the position of the State of Nuevo León as a leader in research and development in health sciences.
